A laser collimator uses one or multiple positive focal length lenses to reshape a diverging light beam. Its function is to align the beam parallel to the optical axis. Take fiber laser output as an example: the light exiting the fiber end has a tiny spot size and diverges at several degrees. A collimator expands this beam into a larger diameter while drastically reducing its divergence angle.
