Zinc selenide is a yellow, transparent polycrystalline material with a grain size of approximately 70 μm and a transmission range spanning 0.5 to 15 μm. Synthesized via chemical vapor deposition (CVD), this material exhibits no impurity absorption and extremely low scattering loss. Its absorption at the 10.6 μm wavelength is particularly minimal, making it the preferred choice for optical components in high‑power CO₂ laser systems. In addition, it is widely employed across various optical systems throughout its entire transmission band.
